Waterhouse Feb 55. Some few American forms

Looked over T. del Fuego insects, which I collected with such care, & there are no Europæan forms except such as are found in intermediate regions.

In S. Australia, (Adelaide) I saw Steropus & Harpelus, which Waterhouse thinks not found in intermediate regions. Staphylinidæ here very rare only 3 species. Tierra del Fuego, As distinct an Oceanic Isld. A. White has written on New Zealand insects

Mutilla is a genus of Foss. Hymenopt. found over world, female Apterous, but as there are parasites on Bees, probably the species thus transported.

Analogy to slight characters common to fossil of several Formations

The Rats of S. America case of small character common to a great division of world. In some great genera of Curculionidæ most of the S. American species have a species in common.
