{Elaphorus Laponicus from Lapland & Kamtschatka, found by Lyell X on the Grampian Mountains. (like the Tachinus of Erichson)

These are all the Genera (except those with single species):— only 2 Distiscus & Haliphus, with 15 & 13 species confined to Europe with N. America; some small genera of course are local. [arrow to "23 Gyrinus" opposite]

Most small genera local: few large genera local.— When a genus is mundane excepting America: it is absurd to suppose then in no climate in all Americas enumerate climate equable, very extreme, extraordinary humid absolute deserts, of which will suit.— On other hand plenty of genera ranging widely in N. & S. America not found in rest of world.
