Lyell has remarked that if same species at any period be found at poles, then this cycle of extremes temperature has been from warm to cold - this applies to representative species - as there being herrings most close in Tierra del Fuego, (which could not have travelled on mountains &c &c) See my Fishes. - Are there representative shells? - Do we know no herrings in intermediate Lias-
