Hooker Misc 2/257 Ledebour describing Flora of Altai says "that in many of the families that are numerous here as to species the genera are very few.

[insertion:] Does that not apply to Plains???

Thus amongst Personatœ (of which are 62 species in the Altai) the genus pedicularis composes almost 1/3 of Leguminosœ are 130 of which 3/4 belong to genera Astagalus oxytropis & phaca, whist the many genera which in other places contribute numerous species to swell the family are almost wholly wanting on the Altai. Thus there are but 2 species of Medicago & 5 of Trifolium. Gives instances of other families. Of Eupatorineæ are 47 species of which 2/3 belong to Artemisia.

This is like several species on same isld? – It is opposed to similarity of proportion, as Humboldt wd maintain.
