In ascending Cordillera frm Concepcion says "the higher one goes, so does the measure of unknown plants increase". There grow Hieraciums, Clovers, Geraniums, Wicken Peas(?) Lathyrus, "so as to recall the north of the old world"; one is reminded of New Holland by Proteaceous plants & singular-fruited Leguminous plants; there is relation with southern S. America by White-woolly Senecios & Gnaphaliens; and one is reminded by large-flowered Loranthens, Misodendrens,

p. 368 Cornidia of the neighbourhood of tropical S. America - At these heights one found, Berberis Echites, Anemone, Loasa, Daphne, Escallonien. Except by Amaryllis & Alstroemerien, "might think oneself on mountains of N. Europe"

(p 369) At greatest heights (beneath cryptogamic region) one meets with many Senecios, Perezien, Amellus, Lasiorrhizen Nassauria; also members of families, which do not generally like alpine stations, as Cassia, Colletia, Escallonia Cynanchum & singular violets,
