Hooker says Galapagos plants, though not peculiar are mostly W. Indian. W. India plants, common to two coasts of Isthmus – was then was open sea across the isthmus; were plants transported across by band of gulf-stream – had Chilian & Peruvian form before been introduced & modified – Mem one shell (Purpura) common to two coasts - & to Galapagos – The isthmus must have been open, before existence of present mollusca!!
