If any Botanist was told of 2 forms, differing greatly in length of pistil, in form of stigma; in length of stamens, in size of pollen-grains; in form of stems of corolla — that in cases requiring insects for fertilisation; in other self-fertilising itself — If he were told that millions of spec whole plants wd be produced, with no trace of variation in these points & with no intermediate gradations; he would certainly declare 2 good & sound species. — Yet this case of Primrose & Cowslip, yet because whole species are same; ie multitude inherited parts similar & inherited habits of life, be empirically ranks as same. —
