Linn Trans. v. 17. p. 22. Buckland on Sloths says Harlan discovered 9th cervical vertebra, supported an osseous rudiment of a rib— Hence number normal in neck.— then dorsal true dorsal acts as cervical

Lin. Trans. vol 17. p. 96. A. De Candolle on Myrsineæ — says "Bartling has overlooked 5 rudiments of stamens existing in Samolus & not in Mæsa" (shows importance of these rudiments, for in Primulaceæ their stamens are constantly aborted C.D.) "After all were Samolus an extensive genus & not limited to a few species only, it wd have been considered worthy of forming a distinct order, intermediate, as Myrsineæ, between Sapoteæ & Primulaceæ." At present ranks Samolus amongst Primulaceæ, & Mæseæ in Myrsineæ.
