Annales du Museum Vol. I. G. St. Hilaire, in a paper on a Fish from the Nile, remarks that it is the Cartilaginous fish which present the most anomalous forms. ie the most broken or fragmentary ie the oldest group, which is the case.—

The oldest & most fragmentary ought to have the most diverse geographical distribution.
