Darwin wrote to T. H. Huxley on 27 November 1859: "I have found it very important associating with fanciers and breeders. For instance, I sat one evening in a gin palace in the Borough amongst a set of pigeon fanciers, when it was hinted thatDarwin wrote to T. H. Benjamin Edmund Bult was a pigeon-fancier and member of the Philoperisteron Society, of which Darwin was also a member. Mr Haynes & Cocker agree that for hardly 2 year can best birds be told some improving some falling off. Mr Bult thinks goodness of Pouter can be told in 6 months.
