When two permanent varieties are crossed, (both in animals & vegetables)

"the immediate offspring will present a mixture of both characters, in nearly an equal proportion, but the progeny of this offspring. will be extremely various. Some will take nearly the form of their male &c "& it will be long before a new permanent character is acquired"

p. 38. When varieties of Wheat are sown together, they readily sport into new seedlings. Mr K. alludes to all plants crossing each other by insects to prevent interbreeding. —
