Decandolle has shown no grafts take except in same family— but all of same family will not take; can (perhaps) usually be accounted for, by different periods of sap size, hardness of wood — instances (vide this) given, but with some exceptions where they do take. — Generally in such instances live for a short time & die — (Q)

Different nature of sap prevents taking —

p 252. size of tree & form of growth affected by grafting — from arbre rampants changed into arbre droit — more or less robust — vide power of fruiting for example — durability — greatest instance of change is Bignou de Virginie grafted on Calalpa Catalpa — when it forms a round head with pendant branches & these bear very few "crampons'
