G. Thuret. Fécondation des Fucacées. Annal des Sci. Nat. 4' series Tom 2 & 3. — (Q)

The antherozoids of Fucus vesiculosus wd never fertilise the spores of F. serratus, but the reciprocal cross almost always succeeded. — In the attempts to cross distinct genera of Fuci, though the antherozoids clung to the spores & though these latter have no inserting membrane, (so that apparently there cd be no physical difficulty in the act of fertilisation), yet no result; Dans quelques cas tres races he observed one or two cases of the commencement of germination. He does not believe they antherozoids penetrate spore. — This greatly opposed to my notion of early death of embryo. (Q)
