Vol VII p. 313. Visit to the Nítí Pass in the Himalaya Journal of Asiatic Soc "The pastures were covered with yâks what (chowra-gaies) & jubboos, the mule breed.

These animals retreat on their own accord to the villages on the setting in of the winter, just before the villagers depart for the southern paryanas. I carried up firewood on the backs of the yâks, & my servants rode on others, very few were white, except at the tail."
