A scarlet azalea wh. flowered badly – examined from flower on one bunch all Pentandria. – one had two stigma, but each of them had two stigma & two united style.  2d was one at base but higher up set of branch & above anther remained seem formed of two styles united [sketch]

3d consisted of three pistils one double – so that these three flowers are essentially Tetradymia – but a 4th flower had five perfect pistils. – Several other Azalea Pontica & America & hybrid azalea & Rhododendron was all monoggamia

another bunch of 4 flowers were all Pentagonia – but in two, one of the pistil was deformed & curled up. In another bunch of two flowers both were Pentagonia; several of the stems in them were of unequal height & deformed
