March 3d Remarks on good drawings of Monochætum ensiferum. – I observe that in old flowers the yellow anthers & connective-projection of  (a) purple are not far from parallel. This different in drawing – The thin & flexible projection of yellow anther of no use. But a large Bee in retracting would certainly upraise the connective of crimson anther; & when this is down tip of anther rises above the pistil & would rub bees body on under side.

[insertion:] good. – so that pollen of crimson anther not lost in old flower – At time of entering old flower would rub ends of yellow anthers against its front – so in young flower in entering, could not front against the tips of purple anther – what I do not quite understand how Bees with pollen of yellow anther

(I see Pistil of young flower move up in Spirits so as to assume position of old flower but apparently not the anther.)

in their front would get it on stigma of young flower. – Possibly in old flower they alight on upper side of flower. I do not think Bee could get dusted with pollen of yellow anther in young flower – hence their smaller size! –

If the insect alighted right in front & in middle of vertical face of old flower & against stigma; then in foray in its head, it would break chest against the yellow anther & connective if crimson anther & all would walk well. The filaments are so close that surely insects would not make for upper side. I do not think bees could well alight on side; not in this their habit
