"Wallich, George Charles, 1815-99. Physician, marine biologist and professional photographer of Danish descent, born in India. Army surgeon and botanist in India. Superintendant Botanical Gardens Calcutta for several years. DSB, 1859-60 Naturalist on H.M.S. Bulldog. W was proposed by Huxley and Murchison. 1860 W sent CD a copy of his pamphlet Notes on the presence of animal life at vast depths in the sea. CD thanks W for. CCD8. 1861 CD met W at Linnean Society. CCD9. 1871 W provided CD with the photograph of the little girl with the hat in Expression, see DAR53.1.45. 1871 W visited CD at Down House. 1871 W made three CDV photographs of CD. 1882 Mar. 28 CD to W, on deepwater organisms and asking for a copy of his lecture on Protista. The shorter ones yellow – Style lateralitèr decurvus stamina breviora sub-æquans. Flower lateral & upright. – (yellow typical colour; violet corresponding with petals.)
