Athenaeum 1841. p. 649. Brit. Assoc. abstract of Owens Report on Reptiles — old forms constantly intermediate.

The Question is would naturalist of Red Sandstone era have made orders of reptiles as we now do - he not knowing the now existing forms – [illeg] the characters, natural & not diagnostic wh. now include every reptile would not hold good - though their forms may be most conveniently classed under reptiles.
