Generally to make out a good range of variation museum specimens must be selected from all part of ranges (& generally widest ranges most variable). To make out variation in time an equally perfect series ought to be secured. Variation so slow that if manifold more specimens from more Geological stages, from several districts, then few species now distinct wd be found to [roam] the [settle] or with predecessors or successors - Respect process - Just what takes place with species in space
