Forbes Paper, showing that land-shells change slower than fresh-water shells, is most important - like Lyell has shown than Mammals change quicker than sea-shells - shows rate of change does not depend on highness of organization - shows that laws of extinction not uniform nor by sweeps - Ask Forbes about sea-shells.
