Phil Transacts 1824. p. 413 Mr Dillwyn on the very gradual approximation of ancient shells to present time (with remarks on the order in which they appear) Is not this so in Fish; in Mammalia, Plants &c Reptiles? This alone is important element in my theory.

It is very remarkable there being some present genera of shells in old times - any fish? corals? Does not this law especially bear on higher animals?
