Gaertner in Beitrage. p. 443. suggests removing all the sterile fertile flowers in some species of Caucalis & Daucus — or the fertile flowers which in Syngrania fontanea & necessaria. as have their female organs sterile, & see & in Viburnum opulus, & see whether those normally sterile wd not become fertile. This wd prove that rudiments have something essential— In Daucus & Caucalis Anthriscus or Chervil cd do it is the flowers of Dolbe or which are sterile — in Viburnum those of border—
