July 1857. From Reversions & Pig-Case, I think plan wd be to try & deteriorate vegetables & from what I have seen of feral wheat in Larch wood & Pea in sand-walk, & Radish in Ashes & Bean in field. — I think plan wd be in turf to bare space of 3 or 4 inches wide & plant in solid earth many seeds, & then save seeds of worse plants — Great care for Birds necessary to net the beds—

Try Spring Wheat & Oats & Barley— Brussel Sprout Cauliflower — Red Cabbage— Radish Peas & Beans — Heartease Carrot & Parsnip. Leave grass to grow in intermediate 2 ft wide slips. I shd think 5 years wd do something considerable — Dry an [illeg] plant or two in flower & seed each year.— Slugs wd be great trouble.
