Salmonia p. 58.1 relates case of red-fleshed trout with darker backs introduced from one Scotch lake into another, where the breed was white fleshed —
the young had flesh less red than parents & in 20 years the variety was lost.

You can select cattle & sheep for horns & yet no difference in calves — how is this in young pigeons — dogs — cattle? As we see the frame of animals can adapt itself to course of life, as in trades there is no reason, why the peculiarities shd be born, — may come in corresponding time of life of offspring — No peculiarity in external

structure can be concepcional, as limbs &c &c only appear late in pregnancy, & then may just as well be born a tendency to alter or assume some form late in youth, — only facts can decide —
some peculiarities may be early impressed & others later — All poultry with same down-feathers.
