Oct 16 77 Examined flower of Melilotus messanensis which sleeps like Trifolium & certainly is a Melilotus — Interesting to find whether in any characters it graduate to Trifolium.
[Movement in plants, p. 348: "Moreover, there is one species, M. messanensis, the leaves of which, on full-grown plants between 2 and 3 feet in height, sleep like the foregoing small leaves and like those of a Trifolium."]
