Horace measured angles of leaves while awake & asleep.
[annotated diagram] asleep 9° above horizon. when asleep & was only 6° wh awake
Horizon Bristle
One leaf was 6° above horizon when awake & 9° when awa asleep. Another leaf was 7° above horizon when awake & 11° when asleep.
The leaflet depress themselves & the young ones on opposite sides come into contact, but not the older ones.
