Lupinus seeds from Cattell. (Aug 1874)

Large Blue Lupine wobbly leaves — (Both sides slivery—) sleeps by bending down moderately leaflets. Oddly after a day in study did not sleep. but the leaflet on side opposite the window did not rise: when pot turned round they rose. I then placed plant out of doors & at in the same manner as on first night.— I then placed Plant in was placed Hall & it slept next morning woke. (Plant we placed for 1º in dark closet at 12º, but no effect produced.) (both plants after kept in Hall all day did not go to sleep.— Is it movement or light during the day)

Straw-coloured lupine smooth leaves. (Upper side silvery, lower side well wetted) This plant sleeps in just opposite manner to last, for it varies its leaflet & I am almost sure its petiole. It did not sleep after being kept all day in my study; but did next night after being placed out of doors.

Can we then account for Beans & Sweet Pea not sleeping in Green House??

Linnaeus says they sleep—
