Trifolium subterraneum

Oct 11. 1878— some aerial branches have produced a few seeds, whereas every flower, which burys itself sets seeds — — some buried a little over .6 of inch— generally less The abortive flowers of in subterranean Head not so much reflexed due to catching earth, white & more rigid than in the aerial ones.—

Surprisingly rigid & defensive.

On younger abortive white flowers no conspicuous Hairs—, roughened with points, but these have grown very long on the older ones— gave them C. of Am. 2 gr. to 1 oz at 11° 50' at 4. 15' P.m not acted on, but Hairs old— a sort of rod or string of Protoplasm runs up centre of each Hair.—

The sol. of C. amm old & probably weak
