Vegetable Marrow (Cucurbita ovifera)

March 27 1878. (Geotropism)

A plant bore a fine vigorous tendril on summit of stem, which was secured close to base of t. to a stick, & pot then laid horizontally. The t. circumnutated in a fine manner, (movements traced on vertical glass, Kept in darkness.) & made several ellipses in the course of 14°; & on following day, but did seem in the least affected by apogeotropism. When the stem was freed it rose a little through apogeotropism, carrying with it the tendril, & It this division of labours no doubt no doubt is for the benefit of the plant.—
