[54]

Nephrodium molle.

[in margin:] Fronds well developed & of nearly full lengths

Plant laid horizontally, kept dark & movements traced on vertical glass from 8° 35' on May 31' to 9° a.m on June 3d. Two fronds a younger one with tip still curled inwards & filament was therefore attached 2 from apex. An older, but still young frond with apex depressed & filament attached 2 1/4 inch from apex. [sketch]

The older frond rose a trifle on 2d day & then remained quite stationary.

The younger frond, on 2d day rose a little on 3d day risen a mere trifle & on 4th morning again a little risen, but so small an amount as to be hardly trustworthy, yet I think did rise a bit.—

neither by Geotropism nor by Apogeotropism)

(Possibly growth of whole lower part of frond ceases as soon as they become straight or cease to be involuted.—)
