Ap. 7th Nephrodium molle Fern

Ap. 7 Cyperus alternifolius —

Movements little magnified near vertical glass Darkness

4°    same spot             4'    same spot

6°    fallen a bit           6°    fallen a bit circumnutating I think

8. 50    same spot        8° 50    same spot

10. 30       do   10. 30'    a little lower not dotted

Ap. 8th

6. 45.' a m    fallen a bit          6. 45' a.m    fallen a bit

5°    an atom to right   5°    a little down & to right

10. 25    lower — a little        10. 25'    to left a little

9th

7° 35'    a little downward & to left    7°. 35'    a little downward.

8. 30 a little more to left             8. 30' nearly same position

Pots laid Horizontally

Exposed for 46° to Apogeotropism

No effect. The stem fell nearly whole time for very short space probably merely gravity in slightly zig-zag line, which possibly indicate slightly circumnutation. & they moved obliquely to left on which side I held candle, but I doubt whether due to this— Young stem of Cyperus, not quarter grown— Young frond of Fern. — Observe

April 10' After keeping upright for a day the Fern & Cyperus placed vertically with same marks, & traced on Hor. glass in darkness. to see if any movement, when vertical.— perhaps too cold to grow in study — if so test Apogeotropism in Hot-House

Fern Left Hand           Cyperus right Hand

8° 30'   8°. 30'

9 30    not moved        9. 30    not moved

11° 10    hardy any change     11° 10'    an atom from light & to right

1°      do           1°    hardly any change .

4. 30    no change        4° 30    no change

10° P.m    a little from light & to left          10°    no change

11th

7° 30' a m    little to light        7°. 30'    hardly moved

9°    do             9°    do

As Cyperus nutated well when in Hot-House I suppose my study too cold for it or Nephrodium to nutate — but this very odd as weather not very cold— & fire in room —  Whole case very odd
