Kew Nov – 9 – 1873 – All the Australian acacias known to Hooker commence with pinnate leaves, & some assume the vertical leaves alone, others have both kinds mixed throughout life.
With Eucalyptus the leaves are true with most of the species they are at first horizontal, & when older, by a twist of the petiole, become vertical & alter their shapes.
Some remain horizontal throughout life.
Some become vertical at a very early age perhaps from the first start.
E. globus is a most capital instance of horizontal with much more bloom whilst young & vertical when old, - whether it then has more or less bloom I know not.—
