Augt. 16 shook for 2'; the terminal & lateral leaflets standing considerably above horizontal plane; the terminal one fell after some minutes 18°, & the 2 lateral likewise fell a little & the terminal now stood 7° above horizon. — Syringed the leaf for 2' 30" with water at nearly 90°, taking care to syringing lower surface of leaf, but letting many drops of water fall on upper surface; & then shook off all water: the terminal leaflet now sloped 22° beneath horizon, so that the syringing caused a fall of 29°, & from original position of 29° + 18 = 47° — The syringing caused the lateral lie flat, or rather inclined downwards. In this position water from vertically above easily ran off leaf.— The terminal leaflet had risen a little in about 15'
