Robinia pseudo-acacia

1874 April 4th. Leaf expanded in greenhouse & not very healthy — Syringed violently, terminal leaflets pretty well protected & almost dry after shaking them, but some which looked unhealthy very wet.— I think younger leaflets certainly are depressed from the syringing & the whole main petiole, I certainly think depressed. (Look at Elizabeth tree during rain.)

— 9°. 45' P.m. H. & F. brought me a leaf beautifully asleep, with all leaflets straight down, so that tips of opposite leaflets & terminal one right— down. — The basal leaflets apparently more directed towards base of main petiole.

April. 4th Shaking branches, I think certainly causes leaflets to be depressed, but not nearly so much as during sleep.
