Woolly Cassia

A nice young but well developed leaf had chord of leaf standing at 31° above horizon, with lateral leaflets rath standing a little above horizontal plane; shook it for 2' no effect.— Then syringed the leaf from below with water at 88°-90°, occasionally dragging water over leaflets, & the chord of petiole then stood at only 14° above horizon, so had fallen 17° (rises wonderfully during sleep). The leaflets moved toward apex of leaf & become considerably declined. In this position water rolls off leaf easier than when all leaflets are nearly horizontal

Cassia woolly— Drops & Drips

Aug. 28th 9° A.m.— 6 leaflets pinned down, not touched with drops of water on. —Leaflets, especially the 2 terminal ones a little speckled with mould.

(Sept 11th removed leaf — no injury — it is remarkable with what ease w. glides off the leaves, though no bloom, so that difficult to keep it drop on yet the surface remain wet for a time. — leaf marked red wool.—

Sept. 18th 9° 10' — put leaf, on cork moderately young, (with a few yellowish specks) under single drip. — Height of drip. 7 3/4 inch

Sept 19th 11° I think brown mark along mid-rib when water falls

Sept. 24. removed leaf purple wool.— I see I made a mistake first dripped on one leaf & then on another: on 1' leaf a good many brown specks along mid-rib, of which no trace in any other leaves or plants; & some brown along mid-rib of 2d leaf; (this 2d leaf with thick purple w.)

Sept. 25' there are now black specks on the leaves, but chiefly altogether on under side; whether due to drip I know not) over

Cassia woolly

Oct 1' 9° A.m. put a terminal leaflet on younger leaf under the drip.

Oct 8' The terminal part of leaf over which water trickles blackened & mid-rib of adjoining leaf do.—

Oct 10' 4° P.m.— I can now see infiltrated spaces.

(The infiltration a mistake & the blackened parts only algæ)

Oct 19th 11° took away plant & sponged the leaflet, which does not seem injured, 19 days drip!! marked with yellow wool

25 29} The 2 dripped leaves look better than the others
