Oct 6 /73. Catasetum greenish with 1 arm folded. —Squirted from quite far close with greatest force from metallic Boss — squirt into Labellum, so that the antennæ was moved in 3 flowers, but did not explode. —I then took thin Bristle, held free for 1 to 1 1/2 inch in length, & had to after touching repeatedly but at last all 3 exploded.— On my hand the force of the water felt many times greater than that of the Bristle of above length, which I could hard only just feel when touching my hand in the same manner.— From form of labellum antennæ are perfectly protected from rain, so they must be specially adapted, not against against rain, but for touch of insects, which is indispensable for fertilisation.

The antenna bars the passage into Labellum
