Oct 4 Strephium—

The index used was a bit of grass fixed to a leaf; the plant stood in the hot case {Temp 24° to 26 1/2' C} with the grass pointing at the vertical glass & the position determined by foreshortening. This index was rather two heavy, as in the evening abt 5.30 it was seen that the leaf was not so vertical as the rest on the plant & on cutting a bit off the index, the leaf rose quickly in a straight line.

There is a mistake somewhere; in the tracing the leaf begins to rise after dot 20 & there is no 21, therefore 20 ought to be 21; I think one dot must have been written down but not dotted on glass
