Sleep

Siegesbeckia orientalis

May 28th 1879— 10° 30' P.m.— some leaves dependent at high high angles & some not so— marked with white Thread —8° am now Horizontal But it is very odd only only some leaves were declined last night

29th 10° P. After being kept all day in study in front of window— leaves not in the least asleep.—

→ See Back

Anoda Wrightii May 28th 79 10° 30 P.m older leaves 45° or 50 beneath horizon — younger leaves horizontal or only little declined (see Back) white Thread— white Thread 8° a.m

29th — & now horizontal or nearly horizontal

29th 10° P.m 2. with thread almost vertically down — some young leaves horizontal—

(The older leaves become in day with their petioles much depressed.)

30th 2° P.m. the 2 leaves which last night were almost vertically down are now at 36° & 37° beneath horizon

[2v]

Anoda it is not petioles— but blade of leaf which bends down & in old leaves it is the peti petiol petiole which sinks down. — There is a pulvinus at base of lamina, & hence old leaves sink down which are old sink down.
