Euphorbia Jacquinifolia only the very young Leaves sleep.

(Stem Secured to stick in every case)

Plant 15 inches high— Young leaf observed 3d from top, (counting counting very young ones) with petiole 2. 1/2 5/8 inch long.— Observed under skylight, traced on vertical glass— Leaf, highly inclined upwards [sketch] so that Apex of leaf had to be placed very near vertical glass.—

Jun 7' fell from 9° 15' P.m to 5° P.m, when too low to observe; & so it behaved on 2 following days; that descending descending line was slightly zig-zag is only fact & did not coincide with ascending line. not

Tracing not worth giving not to be trusted. Temp. 17 1/4 to 18 1/2 C.

On 9th moved descended very little, owing probably to increasing age of leaf & we small amt of light on 2 previous days. for some younger leaves were much considerably depressed at night.—

It is important that leaf when almost perpendicularly down at 10° P.m, oscillated a little from side to side & up & down, showing that it still circumnutated — General Result fell all day from 6° 40' a.m to late night in late in evening & during latter part of night or very early morning rose to former level.—
