Aug 30' 1879

Nankin Cotton plant now only 15 inches high ─ fine large leaves at night almost or quite vertically dependent; on previous & subsequent morning about horizontal or raised a little above horizon.

Anoda Wrightii ─ plant now 10-11 inches high ─ leaves on side of plant which had faced light quite vertical at night, & in day moderately slightly inclined or even sub-horizontal ─ Very old leaves always hang down vertically

Young leaves from 1 to 1 1/2 inches long hardly at all inclined or asleep at night.

When these same plants had gone to double the above height, all these leaves stood at night almost or quite vertically dependent
