Circumnutation & sleep of Leaf.
1878 July 10'— to morning of 13th
Young Plant, with filament affixed to the 5th leaf after cotyledon—
Leaf 5 3/8 in length— distance of tip from vertical glass 4 inches. observed under skylight. Temp. on 10' 18 1/2 19° C. on 11' & 12 fr 19 1/2 to 18 1/2 C. — stem secured to stick
See Tracing— during first day 10' rose all day, probably due to light from above— next day 11th fell till 4° P.m & then began to rise— was falling in early morning ie before 7° a.m.— on the 12th fell till 3° P.m & then began to rise — The fall on 2d day nearly coincided with rise of first day, but on 2d & 3d days clearly circumnutated, as ascending & descending lines do not coincide.
