[94]

June 11' to morning of 13th 1878.

Oxalis Valdiviana.

circumnutation of terminal leaflet

Leaves like those of O. acetosella— petiole very long secured to stick

Close under 3 leaflets. Observed under skylight — [sketch] apex 4 3/8 from vertical glass. Temp. 15 1/2 to 16 1/2 to C.

Right Hand leaf young, but appearing full-grown. See tracings —

Interesting case, on 11th & 12 of June the leaf circumnutated from abo 11° to about 5° P.m, when the great fall commenced, so that by 9° hung perpendicularly down; must rise up horizontally very early in morning, for by 6° 50' was falling, afterwards to rise again. — If we regard the tracing in middle of day case like the circumnutation of any other ordinary non-sleeping leaf, & the sudden fall & rise late in evening & very early in morning is sole difference.

Another & older leaf was also observed, apex 4 3/4 inch from vertical glass see other Tracing— but this is not accurate for tracing was accidentally being blurred— bud leaflet circumnutate slightly but in very complicated manner from 8° 45 a.m. to about 3° P.m─ On noon morning of 13th fell from 6° 50' a.m to 8°. 15' a.m. just like the younger right-hand leaf.—
