Dec. 12th. 77/ Mimosa pudica

The first true, small compound leaf with no bloom! & only slightly sensitive when leaflets pinched close only a little & petiole falls a little. depressed at 10° 15'. P.m leaflets quite closed all in a packet & petiole so upright as almost to be in line with stem— Cots much raised, but not at all closed.

Dec. 14 tried first leaves again when in hot case, about as sensitive as before.

Dec. 16' No 2d leaf yet formed.— above pinched leaflets rise about 45°, but do not shut — of one almost, petiole fell 13°— the other did not fall. (over)

[119v]

One seedling instead of compound leaf has a dentated one exactly like that of a Maple, the 2 sides did not shut when this was pinched.─
