Cyclamen Persicum

1878 June 2d to morning of 5th

Young leaf 1.8 of inch long including petiole, rising arising from old-root stock, observed under skylight & traced on vertical glass.─

End of leaf 7 inches from vertical glass. [sketch]

Movement up & down never on same lines— During first day leaf lowered itself a little as light now came from come aro above. Each day descended from early morning (ie. 6° 40) a.m to about 7° P.m, when the ascending movement commenced till all night till the early morning; but movement, though thus like true sleep, not enough to call any attention without the aid of tracing. It shd be observed that the leaf wd have descended a little further down, had not glass filament rested each day between 5° & 6° P.m. on rim of pot at near the lowest point of descent.—

(A young leaf, 1.8 of inch in length including the petiole, produced by by an old root-stock was observed in usual manner during 3 whole days. See Fig.

During the first day the leaf fell more than on other days afterwards as it apparently adjusted itself position to the light from above. On all 3 days it fell from early morning till about 7° P.m. & then [illeg] In that time hour rose till during the night; with very little zig-zagging so that The movements are therefore is strictly periodical. It shd be noted that the leaf it was late on wd each evening would have fell furth a little lower had not the glass filament daily at that hr rested till 5° or 6° P.m daily on the rim of the
