Dionæa 1878 Sept.

A nearly full-grown leaf lay on ground, but to make sure drove make sure drove long thin pin through side of Petiole— fixed long tapering cone triangle of paper to one of the marginal spikes, which projected at about angle (gradual shutting & opening of leaf) of my full-grown plant of 45; apex, & put under microscope with micrometer each division of which was 1/500 of inch.— During the 12th of h from 8° 50' point point travelled 8 3/4 / 500 to one side until 12° 50'; then moved back again until 10° 40' P.m. 5/100 of inch: : extreme distance travelled nearly 9/500 of an inch during during 14°.— On Sept 13th moved moved between 7° 30 a.m mov 1/500 to one side until 10° 20'; & then moved back up to 5° P.m 2/500 — Altogether extreme points moved 2/500 apart during the 9° 1/2 Hours. Movement Movement of blade considerably less

than that of point of paper.— May be of nature the nature of circumnutation leaf spike closing & opening about the 1/100 of inch but probably has no relation to ris closure of leaf from touch. Leaf sensitive for when I touched filament, it closed closing at once.
