Pfeffer quotes Meyer that lobes rise at night. Accordingly I fixed long glass-filament exteriorly to lobes of 3 fine leaves of different ages & measured distance at 2° 50' P.m. — In 2 cases the distance was 1.6 of inch; in 3d case 1. inch—As leaves do not never fully expand, the glass-filaments of course diverge much, & this accounts for distance of tips apart.— At 10° 15' P.m— distance again carefully measured, & in all 3 case exactly the same as before; leaves certainly do not close.
