[sketch]
Needles 3 inches in length & nearly fully grown.— Needles borne on lateral branches— Branches so still stiff not tied;—
Left-Hand needle. Tracing I apex of leaf 10 inches from vertical glass observed observed from 9º a.m. July 31' to 2º P.m Aug 1'
Right Hand leaf Tracing II observed during same period, apex of leaf 8 inches from glass. — Both no doubt circumnutated, though on very small scale.—
(P. Austriaca– two leaves 3 inches in length long not quite nearly fully grown, borne on a [illeg] branch of a young tree 3 ft in high growing in a large pot, was observed during 29 hrs on July 31', in the same manner as the leaves of those of the last species. Both these leaves certainly circumnutated on a small scale, making within the above period 2 two or 2 two & a half irregular & very small ellipses.
