[294]

Sarracenia purpured [purpurea]

Circumnutated of young Pitcher

A young leaf, with the pitcher-part expanded bladder swollen, but with the hood frond not open.   8 1/2 inches in height, had glass filament fixed transversely across apex & traced on vertical glass under skylight — (Apex of leaf 20 inches from glass, so tracing immensely magnified this applies only to 3d when Tracing more magnified.) [sketch]

See Tracing on July 2d, no doubt circumnutates.

(On July 3d put pot further off (viz 20 inches) & this day's Tracing better (engrave this alone) from 8° a.m. on 3d to 10° 15 a.m on 4th. There can be no doubt circumnutates though though on very small scale.—

(Temp. on 2d  17 1/2  to 18° C. – on 3d 17° C.)
