Dec. 21'

Hedysarum montanum: Cot. green & rather thick no bloom. Observed in darkness under Compound M. apparently do not open very wide & for some time are almost horizontal. [sketch]. Selected one which the 2 Cots were was only 17/500 open or apart at 11° 43' on 2 upper margins, which if the 2 had been fully expanded would have been the two lateral margins — See Table of measurements the 2 Cots went on separating 3° 45' & at 4° 50' were 3/500 closer & continued, closing till 10° 45' P.m. when they were nearly as close as in morning . Next morning early were closer further apart; then closed again & afterwards seem become fixed & apparently were rigid from darkness. The Cots of anothr seedling, which was not watched had certainly closed considerably. No doubt they move a little at this early age

There was remarkably little nutation! Perhaps too cold in Study

Dec. 25th The Cot. do not sleep for I measured with compasses at 12° 15', 4° 30' & 10° P.m. The distance of tips of Cots of 3 plants & there was no difference to speak of.

(Not worth giving)
