Radishes Cots. 1877
Nov. 26th 3 or 4 of first seedlings with Cots. open at noon: at 10º 25' P.m. all closed.
(Nov. 27th 6º 45' a.m. still dark, 7 seedlings now have Cots open & present widely different appearance to last night. At noon I marked 10 seedlings with Cots at right ∠ or very nearly so to stems & with the petioles of some of them slightly divergent: at 10º 20' P.m nine out of these 10 (& others which had not been marked) had both their Cots. vertical, & petioles of all in close contact. The one which was not asleep, marked with pin.
(Nov. 28th 6º 45' a.m still dark all the radishes with Cots quite open.)
(Nov 28th 12º Pricked 2 cotyledons & after 7' & after 30' no effect.)
Nov. 29th 10º P.m. None deserving to be called asleep, though the Cots somewhat raised, especially the shorter one of the two, & petioles in contact, so that bases of Cots. touch.
Nov. 30' In most of plants with white thread the petioles are in contact but in a few of the larger & older ones not so. — During previous day not in contact.
