Radishes Cots. 1877

Nov. 26th 3 or 4 of first seedlings with Cots. open at noon: at 10° 25' P.m. all closed.

(Nov. 27th 6° 45' a.m. still dark, 7 seedlings now have Cots open & present widely different appearance to last night. At noon I marked 10 seedlings with Cots at right ∠ or very nearly so to stems & with the petioles of some of them slightly divergent: at 10° 20' P.m nine out of these 10 (& others which had not been marked) had both their Cots. vertical, & petioles of all in close contact. The one which was not asleep, marked with pin.

(Nov. 28th 6° 45' a.m still dark all the radishes with Cots quite open.)

(Nov 28th 12° Pricked 2 cotyledons & after 7' & after 30' no effect.)

Nov. 29th 10° P.m. None deserving to be called asleep, though the Cots somewhat raised, especially the shorter one of the two, & petioles in contact, so that bases of Cots. touch.

Nov. 30' In most of plants with white thread the petioles are in contact but in a few of the larger & older ones not so. — During previous day not in contact.
